Maternal Emergencies Course: Critical Obstetric and Gynaecological Skills

The excellent maternal emergency course is specifically designed to provide essential knowledge and skills required to effectively manage and navigate through critical obstetric and gynaecological emergency scenarios. This comprehensive course addresses a range of life-threatening emergencies commonly encountered in the emergency department.

The Maternal Emergency Course adopts a blended approach – e-learning and simulation-based training, and hands-on workshops. Trainees will have the opportunity to practice critical procedures, such as resuscitative hysterotomy and management of postpartum haemorrhage, using high-fidelity simulators and realistic scenarios. Expert faculty, including experienced obstetricians and emergency medicine specialists, will guide trainees throughout the course, providing valuable insights and feedback.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise and manage critical obstetric emergencies in the emergency department, including ruptured ectopic pregnancy and cervical shock.
  • Apply appropriate interventions for pre-eclampsia and postpartum haemorrhage to stabilise patients and minimise complications.
  • Perform resuscitative hysterectomy and manage precipitous delivery scenarios under high-pressure conditions.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams in the rapid assessment and management of maternal emergencies.
  • Demonstrate practical skills in life-saving procedures through hands-on simulations.
  • Improve decision-making in life-threatening obstetric and gynaecological scenarios with expert feedback.
