Course Overview
Because of distinct anatomical and physiological differences—such as smaller airways, higher baseline metabolic demands, and minimal physiological reserves—respiratory distress in children can progress to full respiratory failure within minutes. The Paediatric Respiratory Emergencies course provides the advanced critical skills required to rapidly recognise, assess, and aggressively manage acute breathing crises. Why This Course Matters
This training focuses on understanding the unique anatomical and physiological vulnerabilities of children, whose respiratory systems offer a much narrower margin for error than those of adults. Participants will explore the principles of paediatric respiratory physiology to better recognise and prevent avoidable respiratory deterioration and arrest. The course also provides comprehensive training in the assessment and management of high-impact respiratory pathologies, including severe asthma, bronchiolitis, croup, anaphylaxis, and foreign body aspiration. Learners will develop the confidence to move rapidly from recognition to action, mastering both advanced pharmacological treatments and respiratory support strategies to deliver timely, effective care in critically unwell children.A must-attend course for frontline clinicians managing high-acuity paediatric presentations:
By completing this module, you will be able to:
This module focuses heavily on the pre-arrest window. Rather than teaching you how to manage a respiratory arrest, it emphasises how to identify subtle physiological failure patterns early enough to prevent the arrest entirely.
