Dr Bashar Elwir is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, based at Queen’s Medical Centre. He has extensive experience in emergency and trauma care across the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, with a particular interest in quality improvement, patient safety, medical leadership, and emergency care systems. Prior to his consultant appointment, Dr Elwir served as a Senior Quality Improvement Fellow, leading and supporting initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes, clinical governance, and service delivery within emergency care. His commitment to continuous improvement has remained a central focus throughout his career. Dr Elwir completed a five-year ACGME-International accredited Emergency Medicine Residency Programme at Mafraq Hospital, one of the UAE’s leading trauma and burn centres. During his residency, he held several leadership positions, including Co-Chief Resident, Chief Resident, President of the House Staff Council, and member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee. These roles provided extensive experience in clinical leadership, trainee development, and healthcare management while working within a high-volume tertiary emergency department. He is board-certified in Emergency Medicine through both the Jordanian Board and Arab Board and holds Fellowship of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (FRCEM). His advanced training includes ATLS Instructor status, Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS), healthcare quality improvement, clinical leadership, and digital healthcare systems. Dr Elwir has presented research at international scientific meetings, including the International Conference on Emergency Medicine, and has contributed to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives focusing on sepsis management, intravenous fluid stewardship, and acute stroke care. His academic interests encompass quality improvement methodology, emergency department performance, patient safety, and the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based emergency care.
